Chapter 15 Reflections

3 Things I learned
Many countless hours have been put into the subject of helping those students with special needs. Schools have adapted special technology for them, programs, and funding. Many people have also been trained to help these students with the needs. More and more these day though they are intergrading these students into the mainstream classroom. These student with special needs will no longer need to be in their own classroom. But based on the new adaptations in technology students with needs are able to be in a class with their peers. Universal design for learning has formed and understanding of these students and their need to be in the mainstream classroom. Now there is assistive technology that will in certain cases replace the in the classroom aid who helps with these students. But because of this technology students can be active and follow along in the classroom with their peers.

2 Connections I can make
Not just students with a learning disability are special needs. Students who are at risk also need this technology to help. In my classroom I will have these adaptive technologies to help not just the students with needs, but all students. All students need the same amount of attention to stay active. Having these technology in the classroom will help all students get the help and guidance that they need to succeed on homework and such. Having an ipad for every student will help with the students with disabilities. They are able to take this home, carry it around, and Apple has all of these technologies already on there. So there won’t have to be any downloading.

1 Question
Is there schooling that all teachers have to go to, to help with students with a learning disability or of special needs?

Chapter 13 Reflections

Chapter 13 Reflections
3 Things I learned:
Music production and music composition mean the same thing. Yet there are different technological programs that help with both, and each help with the music teaching. Different software’s help students compose music within the computer. Art instruction is also being intergraded into technology. There are sites via the web that teachers and students can visit to go on a virtual art field trip. Where the site will take the class on a journey throughout an art museum. This way the students can grasp a visual representation of the museum and the art work from around the world. For the students who like graphic web design, more and more sites are being offered for help with that.

2 Connections
In my classroom I can use the Picasa program that google has for a virtual art field trip of museums from around the world. I can use this in my classroom, for if we are studying a different place and it involves a piece of literature, the art trip with help the students get a visual representation of what it is like over there. For the music class, Mac’s garage band is helpful when making music within a classroom.
1 Question

Can I use these technologies in my classroom even though I am not a music teacher?

Chapter 12 Reflections

3 Things I learned
Technology can be used in any content area. It is not just for computer science. It can be used in social studies to take the class on a virtual field trip around the world. This way student can see different places of the world without leaving the comfort of their own classroom. Software companies are making games and things for the net that have to do the with history and the world wars. This way student can learn about the history of their country in a comfortable environment. This kind of learning is called adventure learning.

2 Connections I can make
Having technology in the classroom can be good for differentiated instruction. For those learners who have a hard time sitting still for a long time, having this trip on line will help them keep focus on the task at hand. By having interactive learning via technology will keep learners engaged, and they will learn in an environment that will keep them focused.

1 Question
How often could a teacher use this tool in their classroom without using it to much? How much is to much?

Chapter 10 Reflections

3 Things I learned
It is important for teachers to make their classroom English Language Learning environment. Within the classroom teachers will have students who English is not their first language. So they need to make it a safe place that they can learn English and they can learn the material. One way to do this is for the teacher to get to know the students. Via introducing their native language and culture into the classroom. Technology allows the students to learn in their own language so that they can learn the material, and use the new technology. This is called computer-assisted language learning. Radio broadcasts will help these students. This allows the students to be spoken to in their native language digitally so they and able to understand the content.

2 Connections I can make
In my classroom I want to be able to make podcasts. This will help me get in touch with the parents of my students, but also for the parents who English is not their first language. Digitally my voice can be recorded in a different language. So this will give parents the feeling of comfort that they can understand me, and what their child is learning. For the ELL learners I will have language labs in my classroom. Where they will be presented with the content, in their native language, but also they will be able to practice English. This helps because they are being presented with the material, but they also get to practice English.

1 Question
If it is clear that I have a majority of my class ELL can the school provide me all the new up to date technology that I need for my classroom?

Chapter 9 Reflections

3 Things I learned
As new technology comes into the world today, it is important for students to know how to use the technology. In some classrooms the state of the art technology has already been installed. It is important for the teachers as well to be knowledgeable in the area. Students like to teach their teachers in return. So most likely that the student knows more about the technology then the teacher does. So this gives the students the opportunity to teach the teacher, and the students will feel good about themselves in how much about technology they know. There is software and new technologies coming out to help students with special needs. This will help management in the classroom so that the students have more assistance where needed and the teacher can help other students.

2 Connections I can make
There are new software’s coming out to help with visual learning. Such as concept mapping, electronic outlining, and digital storytelling. This will help students make connections to prior knowledge using the concept mapping, and digital story telling will help get the students engaged on what the lesson will be about. Digital storytelling can be a pre-assessment to introduce the students to the material.

1 Question
Can they make these different electronic way of learning in a different language for my English Language Learners?

Chapter 8 Reflections

3 Things that I learned:
When using the internet in a classroom the teacher needs to be sure to monitor the web and action that goes on, but they can also use the web as a teaching tool. An art teacher per say could use the virtual museum to show their class different pieces of art, and museums from around the world. This is called an electronic field trip. It is up to the teacher on how to use this tool but it is a good use without having to leave the classroom. For individual learners they have web based tutorials. With these the teacher is able to teach the class via the web, but also when the teacher instruction stops; the web will pick up the instruction. This way the students are able to learn at their own pace. For teacher learning there are websites, blogs, wiki’s and other helpful material via the web. This way teachers are able to use resources, and insights from other teachers without leaving the classroom. This will help teachers make their instruction differentiated.

2 Connections I can make:
As an English teacher I would use the use of blogs in my classroom. This way my students can use the web from where ever they are, upload their documents, and be done. This is a good way to go paperless, and to ensure that the students will not ‘lose’ their class work. I would also want to use the googledoc system. This way my students can come together in their own environment and make changes to group presentations, they can all be working on it all at once, and I will be able to access it right away.

1 Question:
Do schools offer an internet class for teachers to take to get used to, and learn new things about the internet so that they can integrate it into their classroom?

Chapter 7 Reflections

3 Reflections:
There are new things are being introduced to the internet every day. While using the internet as a teacher it is important that the internet be monitored. Whether I am on it in the classroom or if my students are on it. I need to watch for sites that pop up that have inappropriate material in them. Schools good with blocking the sties that might be inappropriate, but this is the world wide web, anything is able to come up. With internet hackers and online predators, anything is bound to get through. Along with predators come viruses. A virus can attack a computer through anything, epically email. As a teacher I need to watch that my students do not use internet chat rooms, or e mail while at school.

2 Connections I can make:
Students can use the internet in my classroom while doing a research project on the topic we may be learning about. The internet will help with this research, because it will make looking for information easy, and more information than a single book. While doing research on the internet I will teach them the sites to go to and the sites to stay away from. In order to search for materials accurately I will teach them how to use advanced search engines.

1 Question I have:
It says on page 227 that in order for a teacher to teach on line courses, I have to have a degree in technology. Is this true? Did I read it wrong? Could I use the teaching degree that I have to teach on line classes?

Chapter 6 Reflections

3 Reflections:
Using Youtube media in the classroom is a good thing, because it gets the students engaged in the topic that the teacher is teaching for the day. This type of showing interactive media in the classroom is called Hypermedia. Not to be confused with Multimedia. Multimedia is just as interactive as hypermedia, but it not a direct link from the internet. Multimedia is usually clips from movies or sounds. Now that we live in the 21st century computer programmers and web designers are making more and more interactive hypermedia sites for teachers to use in their classroom.

2 Connections I can make:
As an English teacher I can use links on the internet to help get my students engaged with the subject. I can find videos on the internet and show them in my classroom via smartboard. Students will also be able to find their own videos and use the smartboard that is in the classroom. The smartboard will help them be interacted with me, and their peers in front of the class. With the web newer I can have the students create blogs. The blogs will take place of paper and pencil writing and tangible note books. With the smartboard in the class the students will be able to see and view other students blogs.

1 Question:
Am I as a teacher able to have students create blogs, and assign them homework using their blogs?

Where's the Beef Reflections

3 Things I’ve learned:
As a teacher when I am grading a multimedia project I can create a rubric online that the students can access. This way they know what is expected of me, and of then out of the project. A multimedia project does not just contain Power point. It can include a portfolio that the students and develop using the internet. As a teacher I need to allow the students to pick and choose their own way of creating a multimedia project. This way the student is more likely to want to do better, because they picked it, and they want to show me that they can do well on a project. They will also take more ownership of the project.

2 Connections I can make:
As a teacher is in important to have multimedia projects in my classroom. And it is essential to the students learning to use the media programs that the school has. Using the media in my classroom will help the students with coloration on group projects, creating a media portfolio and using elements of communications to their peers and themselves. .

1Question
Is there training for the teachers who are teaching, so that they can learn how to use these multimedia tools, and tips for intergrading them in their classroom?

Chapter 3 Reflections

Chapter 3 Reflections

3 Things I learned:
Using a certain kind of software the students can construct flashcards. Using the flashcards the students are able to learn in different ways. They are able to use the technology, learn the material they put on the flashcards, and they can always access them using the web. Using the web students are able to give their teacher feedback. They can e mail their teacher, or use some software that has been invented. Using technology in my classroom I have more control over the environment. I can visually see on the board and the students who is ready to move on or not. Just like professors these days are able to control attendance via the iclicker.

2 Connections I can make:
I can use technology in my classroom to help better my students typing skills, their English vocabulary, and they can utilize standardize test material. Also using googledoc or some form of that, homework will go “paperless”. Students will be able to submit all of their work using the web. This way they can turn it in and be done with the assignment and they do not have to worry about losing the paper that is due.

1 Question I have:
Is there any software for English teachers to use?

Chapter 2 Reflections

Chapter 2 Reflections

3 Things I learned:
All humans construct their knowledge by interacting in different experiences. By having my students use technology they not only get their work done, they also learn how to use the technology. Also by me using it in the classroom they are learning by watching me. Secondary age students are at a critical part in their learning stages. They learn new experiences by fitting in what they know with things that they are learning. And by doing that they are thinking in a different way and they are learning new things along the way. TPACK means technological pedagogical content knowledge which means teaching students how to use their technology resources, they are learning, and I am teaching.

2 Connections I can make:
I think it is important for students to know how they learn. I want to teach them about Jean Piaget’s developmental theory. It is important for them to know why I am teaching why I am teaching, and the different approaches I can take to help every student learn. I can show them in the beginning of the year via smart board my teacher standards. So that they know why I am teaching what I am teaching and why.

1 Question I have:
I understand teaching my students technology in the classroom, but why is it important for me to use it?

Chapter 1 Reflections

Chapter 1 Reflections

3 Things I’ve learned:
While reading the first chapter I did not understand how much technology is needed in the classroom. Teachers do not use technology these days because the schools do not have enough funding, they feel that they do not have enough training in the area, and technology changes faster than teachers can keep up. With the No Child Left Behind act in place in 2001 this would promise more funding to schools for “science based research”. Many teachers do not know how to use a smartboard or how to intergrade this technology into their field of study. Having technology in the classroom can help students learn how to use the technology themselves, helps students visual real life situations through presentations, and most of all it gains their attention so they are more likely to sit through the class because they are engaged.

2 Connections I can make:
Because I am in English I can show my students documentaries and movies that have been made on the subject and the book or author we are studying at the time. This will be helpful for the students to have a visual of what someone was thinking when the book was being written, they can see what the author looked like if we watch a documentary. Even I could have the students do a presentation such as power point or some other creative thing using the computer and technology. Because we live in the 21st century technology will be around wheather I like it or not. Using technology in my classroom will help engage the students, they make “readymade” software that will help with my subject, and students will be able to use the net when it comes to research when we do research topics.

1 Question:
Is there English standards that require me to use the net as a research tool while doing a research project?

Chapter 1 Reading Reflection

Three new things I learned when reading this chapter were...

Two connections to my teaching are...

One question I have about the material is...

Blog Guidelines

provide three new things you learned while reading the chapter. what resonated with you as worth of extra attention? do you agree or disagree with anything? you should be composing a post that includes more than three incomplete sentences. in terms of length and substance, this first section should be at least 1 paragraph

two connections to your own teaching. how could you intergrate what you learned into a classroom envorinment.

one question you have about the material covered was anything confusing? misleading? what would you like to learn more about?
