Chapter 1 Reflections

Chapter 1 Reflections

3 Things I’ve learned:
While reading the first chapter I did not understand how much technology is needed in the classroom. Teachers do not use technology these days because the schools do not have enough funding, they feel that they do not have enough training in the area, and technology changes faster than teachers can keep up. With the No Child Left Behind act in place in 2001 this would promise more funding to schools for “science based research”. Many teachers do not know how to use a smartboard or how to intergrade this technology into their field of study. Having technology in the classroom can help students learn how to use the technology themselves, helps students visual real life situations through presentations, and most of all it gains their attention so they are more likely to sit through the class because they are engaged.

2 Connections I can make:
Because I am in English I can show my students documentaries and movies that have been made on the subject and the book or author we are studying at the time. This will be helpful for the students to have a visual of what someone was thinking when the book was being written, they can see what the author looked like if we watch a documentary. Even I could have the students do a presentation such as power point or some other creative thing using the computer and technology. Because we live in the 21st century technology will be around wheather I like it or not. Using technology in my classroom will help engage the students, they make “readymade” software that will help with my subject, and students will be able to use the net when it comes to research when we do research topics.

1 Question:
Is there English standards that require me to use the net as a research tool while doing a research project?
